Matthew A. Schlau
Principal Attorney
Matthew Schlau is an attorney licensed to practice law in the state of California. He has an extensive background in civil litigation, which includes counseling private companies in hundreds of matters in all stages of litigation. Matthew's background also includes advising companies in private joint venture arrangements and serving as outside general counsel to review, draft, and negotiate contracts and other documents relating to a wide range of exceptional and ordinary-course business transactions. He began his own practice so that he could permanently shift his focus from conflicts to building value. He now helps clients design, create, and grow by proactively addressing personal and business matters.
Matt holds a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy from the University of California, Santa Barbara, as well as a Juris Doctor from Southwestern Law School.
Matt makes a mean pour-over coffee, regularly watches Hocus Pocus/Peppa Pig/Chevy Chase movies with his three daughters, and has lived in Italy on two occasions where he became conversational in Dylan Dog Italian comics. One of his most memorable experiences is missing a plane to meet Josh at Jim Morrison's grave site in Paris.
Interests
Matt is a raving Yankees, New York Football Giants, and Knicks fan, and grew up idolizing Mickey Mantle. Having a family history of tradesmen, he has always had a penchant for design and creating. He has worked with stone, metal, wood, paint, charcoal, pen and paper, and is currently adding front-end web development languages HTML, CSS and JavaScript to his toolkit. He also can't get enough of behavioral economics (see Robert Shiller), economic theory (particularly the work of Thomas Piketty) and Kenji Lopez's The Food Lab. Matt is an avid reader of independent journalism, a crossfitter, and really good at helping people reach their goals.
